English traditional and new songs and tunes - ballads ancient and modern, laments and lullabies, stirring jigs, stompy morris tunes and haunting Playford airs. Jess and Richard Arrowsmith have spent the last 15 years and more steadily working at the music they love. They've played with dance bands (Hekety, Glorystrokes), concert bands (Crucible, Melrose Quartet), for morris (Pecsaetan) and for children (Off We Go!) and they have now produced their debut CD as a duo. Customs & Exercise is a collection of English traditional and new songs and tunes using the voice and fiddle of Jess, and the melodeons and voice of Richard. The material spans emotional highs and lows: ballads ancient and modern, laments and lullabies, stirring jigs, stompy morris tunes and haunting Playford airs. The album showcases Jess's powerful vocals and Richard's subtle skill as an accompanist. Richard and Jess are also joined by some stunning guest performances from Nancy Kerr (voice), Jo Maher (cor anglais), James Fagan (bouzouki) and Pete Smith (voice).
